A very special birthday!

10/04/2022

It was the week of my daughter Holly's birthday, so we did a few special things. I also had a very special order at the end of the week, more later.

Monday, finally the last drawer front arrived from Wren so now my kitchen is complete again and looking lovely. I'm slowly getting used to the new design of handle, much easier to keep clean too.

Monday night I went to see my grandcat Oscar, Holly and Jay spent the evening in Manchester so I went to play with him and give him his dinner.

Tuesday I did some baking and made a few models for future orders. I like having a bit of time to give to my models. This week keeping me company is The Body on the Moor by Nick Louth.

Wednesday was Holly's birthday, her favourite film is Disney's Up and I made her this vegan chocolate cake, she absolutely loved it and coincidentally she was watching the film when we arrived with the cake.

In the afternoon we went ten pin bowling and then had a meal at Frankie & Bennies for more birthday celebrations.

Thursday back to work. First this two layer vanilla Sheffield United cake for a lovely repeat customer.

Then these birthday vanilla cupcakes with West Ham United toppers.

Friday morning I crumb coated all the tiers for a big wedding cake to come. No time for walking this week sadly, still catching up from having a day off.

Friday afternoon saw this two tier, two layer chocolate cake decorated for a retired wrestler. I made the ring using red sugar laces. Steady hand needed.

I did a bit more work on the wedding cake, covering and stacking. Always nerve wracking making sure they all stay straight and in line.

Friday evening I painted my nails this pretty, sparkly, violet pink colour.

Saturday morning was spent decorating the wedding cake. It's a big one, 10" 8" 6" with 3 layers in each tier. It's very heavy indeed.

Saturday afternoon was mine so spent a bit of time doing a few chores around the house and pottering in the garden. It was cold but sunny. The picture below is of a very well established Pieris, Forest Flame. The header picture to this blog is of a beautiful white Magnolia.

Sunday, wedding cake delivery day! Scary stuff and I always breathe a sigh of relief when it's finally in place at the venue. This one was going to the Sitwell Arms in Sheffield. In the room upstairs though so extra scary. I've delivered here before and the staff are really friendly. They let me in through the fire escape so I didn’t have as far to carry the heavy cake.

I was happy with how it turned out. The client had very clear ideas on what she wanted. Alternating blue and white sugar roses and geometric silver pearls to all tiers. Finished off with a pretty white and silver ribbon to the base. Vanilla sponge filled with vanilla buttercream and strawberry jam, frosted with white chocolate ganache and covered in white sugar paste. Job done!

There won't be a blog next week as I'm having a few days off for my birthday (bet I don't get cake!)

Can't wait for the next one.
